Our Story
Elev8careers is a social enterprise where all our profits are reinvested back into supporting social concerns. It was founded by professional careers advisor, consultant and social entrepreneur, Miranda Glavin, in response to her concerns over the reduction of funding for careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) services.
Through working in a variety of educational establishments it became clear there was an opportunity to innovate a more effective method of CEIAG delivery. Informed by her previous experience working in a variety of fields (including working as a journalist, English teacher, music promoter as well as a trainer - a role she continues today) and with the assistance of other colleagues she began to research, explore and pilot different delivery methods and Elev8Careers was born.
Clients
We provide CEIAG to a variety of schools and colleges across Brighton, Hove and Sussex. We have worked with a range of clients including The Sussex Learning Network, East Sussex County Council, Prospects, Connexions, Aimhigher, Work and Learning Opportunities, University of Sussex, OC&C Strategy Consultants and many other schools, colleges and PRUs as well as individuals across the south.
Delivery
While we are based in Brighton our work takes us across east and west Sussex, the south and overseas. Most of the online work (see our blog and social media sites to tap into our networks and knowledge and What We Do to find out more) is overseen by Miranda and we have a pool of talented, enterprising professional careers advisors (level 6 qualified and CRB checked) who help deliver our work face to face.
Approach
We believe CEIAG is crucial for self development, self realisation and self manifestation. For us, effective guidance means helping individuals to develop the skills, knowledge and networks through drip feeding support both on and off line over a period of time. In our experience effective interventions have taken place when people understand both themselves and the outside world and armed with that knowledge, can successfully manage their own careers.
Mission Statement
We empower people to create the life that is right for them by building knowledge, skills and networks through innovative guidance.
Funding
We are always exploring innovative new projects and ways to support people in their career progression. If you have a project you think we could work together on please get in contact.
Partners
We like to practice what we preach so we continue to build our networks, learn, grow and adapt our services in response to change. We would like to thank the people and organisations who have helped us so far for their time and support.
Continuous Professional Development
We believe it is crucial to continue to develop our own skills, knowledge and networks and we do this by attending regular trainings, CEIAG events, conferences and workshops online and in person. In the last year these include: the CDI Annual Conference, National Careers Guidance show, Inside Government Event, the Skills Gap Conference, workshops on various theories and techniques, apprenticeship events, The Skills Show, Brighton Your Futures Event, the Big Bang event, and Total Professions conference among others.
We are a member of the Careers Development Institute. Miranda also sits on the Brighton and Hove CEIAG Task group.
Testimonies
"Like having your own personal motivational career coach". I recently had the fortune to receive some incredibly insightful and pinpoint accurate career guidance from Miranda Glavin. Having at first been a little skeptical of such services, Miranda proceeded within seconds to reassure me 100 fold through her exceptional attention to the detail in my CV, observant - and sometimes difficult to say- feedback and brand new never thought of before recommendations, tips and techniques to increase my chances of finding the elusive role I was searching for. All that's left to add is that since my CV review with Miranda - and over 50 applications with no success - my "post-Elev8 life" is looking remarkably bright - I now have two interviews for some very high level jobs thanks to Miranda's dedicated service and support. Wholeheartedly recommended! Feedback following a CV check and phone Guidance session
'In 2012, I looked at four different companies and met with representatives to see what they could offer and what the cost would be for CEIAG at The Academy, Selsey. Whilst some of the bigger companies were able to offer glossy brochures and boasted large numbers of highly qualified staff, I chose you because of the personal touch that you offered, including very importantly the 24 hour advice and guidance on line opportunity for our students and parents. Your qualification was as high as anyone else’s, yet your small outfit offered a much more friendly and personalised approach, and your fees sounded good value for money. I have not been disappointed. Despite the long journey from your work base, you have never failed to turn up at the arranged times, sometimes extremely early in order to do assemblies etc., and your friendly, approachable manner is something all of our students have benefited from. Despite me being frequently unavailable or busy when you need me, you have unfailingly kept to your side of the deal in seeing our students and producing Careers Action Plans to support them. Thank you, and I hope you continue to work with the school long into the future.' Julia Sheppard, The Academy Selsey
'The interview for the apprenticeship was arranged for my son by your careers advisor Miranda who also wrote to him in the half term asking him how he got on at the interview. I don't think he has had the opportunity yet to thank her in person but I have asked him to go and find her at some point as he is very happy and very grateful to her for her help.' Parent, Hove based School
'Can I also say thank you to you, as it would not have been possible without your aid.' Student after achieving an unconditional university place, Brighton based school
